Co-founder and CEO at Speakeasy
About Sagar Batchu
Sagar Batchu is co-founder and CEO of Speakeasy, a San Francisco company he founded in 2022 with Simon Yu. Speakeasy began by generating SDKs and Terraform providers from APIs and now positions itself as an AI control plane: a layer that connects, secures, controls and observes how a company's agents and AI tools reach its systems, including an MCP gateway. Before Speakeasy he worked at LiveRamp.
Career Highlights
- Co-founder and CEO of Speakeasy (founded 2022)
- Led Speakeasy's shift from API SDK generation to agent governance
- Speaker at AI Engineer (2026) on authorizing AI agent actions
Notable Positions
On Valid Credentials Versus Valid Intent
In the production deletion he recreates, there was no attacker: a coding agent found a full-access token and used it on the wrong environment. For Batchu the failure is unchecked authority, not a bad model.
On Making Governance the Easy Path
Blocks get routed around, so the governed path has to be easier than the ungoverned one: policy written once centrally, distributed through device management, and enforced by hooks in the agent harness in about 100 milliseconds.
On Agent Identity
Every agent should be its own principal, with the operator driving it and the human who authorized its credential recorded separately. A call succeeds only within the credential's ceiling, the agent's policy and the owner's live policy. See Agent Identity.
Key Quotes
- "The agent had valid credentials, but it didn't have valid intent." (on the production deletion)
- "So we want the governed action to actually be easier than the ungoverned action." (on governance design)
- "So an agent can never do more than the person accountable for it who's actually driving the agent." (on permissions)
